Electric Vehicles in London - coming 'soon' but WHEN?

• [Jan 21]: LAST week Mike Tuffrey - London Assembly Lib Dem Environment Spokesperson - travelled to Sunderland with the London Assembly Environment Committee for a site visit hosted by Nissan, manufacturer of the world's first mass-market electric car. The Committee is currently investigating the Mayor's plans for electric vehicles and their potential environmental benefits.
Commenting on the Mayor's plans following the visit, Mike said: "In his original Electric Vehicle Delivery Plan (EVDP) the Mayor committed to delivering 100,000 electric vehicles, pledging to make London the electric car capital of Europe. Yet revisions to his plan now mean just 1,300 charging points will be delivered by 2013 - well short of the 7,500 once promised. Poor charging infrastructure continues to be one of the major barriers to increasing electric vehicle take up across London. It's clear the Mayor has a long way to go before living up to his rhetoric."
