• [Jan 06]: Tory plans for the derelict former swimming pool site on Twickenham Riverside are unimaginative and a 'miserable lost opportunity' to improve the riverside, according to the Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Cllr Stephen Knight. The plans see a small new 'swimming pool-themed' garden created on part of the derelict site, whilst leaving the embankment area as a car park, and failing to remove the unsightly derelict buildings at the Water Lane end of the site.
Councillor Stephen Knight, Leader of Richmond's Liberal Democrat Group, said: "The Tories' new plan for the Twickenham Riverside site is unimaginative in the extreme. It fails to address the most important requirements for any regeneration of this site, such as removing the 80 odd parked cars from the river embankment so that this area can be opened up as real public space. It also fails to remove the ugly derelict buildings from the Water Lane end of the site, which have been an eye-sore for decades. It is simply a miserable lost opportunity to really improve the environment of Twickenham's riverside. Yet again the Tories are putting forward a temporary and partial scheme and failing to offer a comprehensive vision for this important site."
