• [Dec 11] A KEY City Hall debate on cycle safety - following the death of 16 cyclists on London's roads this year - was blocked from being debated as Conservative Assembly Members collectively walked out of the City Hall chamber at last Wednesday's meeting.
The Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group were planning to support and strengthen a motion calling on the Mayor and Transport for London to publish details of rejected proposals for road safety improvements at junctions where cyclists had died. Commenting on the actions of the Conservative Assembly Members, Mike Tuffrey said:
"Today's childish actions by Conservative Assembly Members have thwarted a key debate on cycle safety taking place. Their actions are an insult to every cyclist in London as well as the democratic process."
