• [Dec 09]: RICHMOND'S Tory council plans to increase the fee it charges for issuing 'blue badges' to local disabled residents by 500 % on 1st April 2012 from £2 to £10, the maximum it can legally charge. Many disabled residents have also recently experienced big increases in social care charges from the council.
Cllr Liz Jaeger, Lib Dem opposition spokesperson for adult social care, says: "Despite rhetoric about wanting to protect the most vulnerable, this council is actually hitting disabled residents in the pocket. To increase the fee payable by disabled residents for a blue badge by 500% in one go is completely unreasonable. This comes on top of changes to the way disability benefits are means-tested when charges are calculated for care services - changes which have hit many disabled residents extremely hard."
