• [Oct 03] Baroness Tonge (Liberal Democrat): T) ask Her Majesty's Government whether they will support projects enabling schoolgirls to make films about female genital mutilation, in order to raise awareness of the subject in schools.
Lord Hill of Oareford (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Education; Conservative): Schools have a key role in helping girls and future generations of young women avoid becoming victims of the appalling crime of female genital mutilation. I am aware of the good work done by, with government support, in developing a short film and accompanying teachers' resource pack on the subject for use in secondary schools. Schools and local authorities are free to decide on their own policies relating to the production by pupils of films to raise awareness of subjects in schools.
