• [Sep 16]: FOLLOWING the announcement by Richmond Tories that they now support Liberal Democrat calls for 20 mph zones, Liberal Democrat have called for action to implement limits in those roads that have already been assessed as suitable.
Cllr Stephen Knight, Leader of the Liberal Democrats on Richmond Council, said: "I was surprised but pleased that the Tories now say they agree with us on 20 mph zones, after opposing them for the past year. They are an easy and relatively cheap way of reducing traffic speeds in residential roads and will save lives. Much work has already been done by officers, assessing the suitability of over 20 roads throughout the borough, and now that the administration has dropped its opposition, the council must get on with implementation as soon as possible."
