• [Sep 05]: RICHMOND'S Liberal Democrats have called on the council to implement 20 mph zones wherever residents want them and they can be introduced without the need for extra traffic calming measures. Cllr Stephen Knight, Leader of the Liberal Democrats on Richmond Council, said:
"Where most drivers already keep below 24 mph, 20 mph limits can be brought in without physical traffic calming measures, such as humps. Other councils have successfully installed such zones on this basis and found that they further improve road safety. The Conservative administration appears to be against introducing 20mph zones but have failed to say why. They are cheap, popular and save lives so should be used wherever residents want them."
