• [Jul 27] Dee Doocey writes: LONDON has shown the world how to prepare for the Olympics. The Olympic Delivery Authority has lived up to its name and the stadia are a triumph of British design and engineering. The venues have been completed ahead of schedule and within budget and have provided £6 billion of contracts for a large number of British companies. Credit should also go to the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) which has almost achieved their sponsorship target in the most difficult financial climate.
However we must ensure that the Games are not just an expensive six week celebration. The legacy from the Games is critical and must provide the skills, jobs, homes and communities that we were promised. It is vital that the Park does not become an oasis for wealthy individuals which would provide no benefit for the surrounding communities. This briefing highlights the key elements of what has worked well but also includes some areas where there are ongoing concerns . .
