• [Jul 24] Vince cable writes: I WAS not in Parliament last week for Murdoch mania as I was travelling across the country promoting British business successes in performance cars and bioscience in Norfolk, ports development in Hull, steel in Scunthorpe, helicopters in Somerset, marine engineering in Plymouth and an enterprise incubator in Torbay.
I may, therefore, be the last person in the country to know the latest twist and turn in this remarkable story of a media empire in crisis . .
. . The atmosphere last week has been a little like one of those countries where crowds dance in the street when a tyrant's statue is pulled down from its plinth. We must never again allow a mighty media mogul to put our democracy in danger.
