• [Jul 22] THE new planning application by Solum Regeneration for Twickenham Station should be rejected due to the lack of any affordable housing within the scheme, says the Leader of Richmond's Liberal Democrats.
Cllr Stephen Knight, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group, said: "We have a dire need for more affordable housing in this borough to tackle a growing problem of overcrowding and homelessness and any residential development on publicly owned land, such as the Twickenham station site, must include a large proportion of affordable homes.
"The original application from Solum Regeneration on behalf of Network Rail included just a paltry 28 affordable flats compared with 137 luxury private apartments. This new application has no affordable homes whatsoever, with all 115 flats being luxury private apartments. This disgraceful proposal should be thrown out and Solum Regeneration should go away and produce a reasonable proposal that delivers much needed affordable homes not more luxury apartments."
