• [Jul 08]: TORY council leader Nick True issued a humiliating public snub to his deputy leader Geoffrey Samuel at this week's Council Meeting, when he said that Cllr Samuel had "not spoken for the Council" when he recently described affordable housing as a "very low priority" in a statement to the local press.
Cllr Samuel was reported in the Richmond and Twickenham Times as saying that the authority would not treat social housing as a key factor when it considered Solum Regeneration's application to redevelop land around Twickenham Station and that affordable housing was a "very low priority" for local residents.
Cllr Stephen Knight, Leader of the Liberal Democrats on Richmond Council, said: "It is a humiliation for Cllr Samuel to have his public statement on affordable housing disowned by the leader of the council. It will leave many people wondering if Cllr Samuel can speak for the administration with any authority in the future. The lack of affordable housing in the borough is clearly one of the biggest problems facing local people and it is vital that all significant new housing developments provide a good proportion of affordable homes. For Cllr Samuel to suggest otherwise was inappropriate and against the adopted planning policies of the council."
