• [May 16] THE official opening on Saturday of the King's Field skate park in Hampton Wick has been hailed by Liberal Democrats as a lasting legacy of the investment they put into youth facilities during their four year administration from 2006 to 2010.
The project to replace the previous worn-out stand alone ramps, with a new moulded concrete bowl facility, was funded from a £1 million youth facilities fund set up by the previous Liberal Democrat Council. 11,000 young people across the borough voted in the 'change your world' online poll in 2009 to select the six projects to receive funding and the King's Field skate park was amongst the winners.
Liberal Democrat Leader Cllr Stephen Knight, who set up the youth facilities fund as the previous cabinet member for resources, said at Saturday's official opening event: "This hugely popular new skate park facility was funded by the previous Liberal Democrat administration and we are very proud that we have been able to leave the young people of the borough such a great legacy. I hope the council will now allow some of the other five projects chosen by young people in 2009 to proceed also."
