• [May 06] York Membery writes: IT might not be the typical city slicker's idea of a dream home but it suits Vince Cable just fine. In 1974 the British secretary of state for business moved into a 1930s semi-detached home in Twickenham, south-west London, with his first wife Olympia and their children. He has lived at the same address ever since . .
. . Perhaps his only regret about being in government is that he now has less time for his beloved ballroom dancing: he was runner-up in the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing celebrity special last year. "I used to dance every week but haven't had much time in recent months. Hopefully that will change in the future," he says.
Would he ever consider moving house? "The thought's never crossed my mind. I love Twickenham too much. I still catch the train to Waterloo to get to work - and having lived here for over a third of a century now, I really couldn't imagine myself living anywhere else."
