• [Mar 02]: RICHMOND Council is reminding residents not to miss their chance to vote in the referendum on May 5 on the voting system by checking that they are registered to vote.
There are over 137,000 people registered to vote in Richmond upon Thames. However, Richmond Council is warning that there are still some residents who are not on the electoral roll. Electoral Registration Officer Gillian Norton, said: "Many people make the mistake of thinking that if they are registered to pay Council Tax they are automatically on the electoral roll - they are not. Anyone who has moved house in the past few months needs to ensure they are registered at their new address. That means that unless they take action, they will miss out on their opportunity to vote. Residents also should start thinking about whether they need to apply for a post or proxy vote - the Referendum is on Thursday May 5 which may clash with many people's holidays due to the bank holidays either side."
The last date to register to vote in the Referendum is: Thursday 14 April. For information on how you can register to vote or applying for a postal / proxy vote, go to www.richmond.gov.uk/electoral_registration or call 020 8891 7775
