• [Jan 27]: ONCE again the Conservative administration at York House has shown their contempt for the consultation process by failing to publicise a crucial consultation exercise.
The Conservative Administration recently drew severe criticism for failing to publicise the consultation regarding the changes to the CO2 parking charges until the consultation period was all but expired. Now, fully one week after the Heathfield Library Consultation was launched the Conservatives have finally issued a press release alerting residents to the consultation.
Liberal Democrat Spokesman for Libraries, Cllr J-F Burford, said "It is quite disgraceful that the Conservatives appeared to be sitting on their hands and not telling people that this consultation is happening. I can only assume that they don't want people to take part because they know they have a fight on their hands. It is vital that as many people as possible have their say. Only by sending a strong message to the Conservatives that their proposals are rejected can we hope to overturn their decision to discontinue the much loved and much valued local library provision in Heathfield. While it is vital that Heathfield residents respond we would encourage people across the borough to oppose this cut as they may well find that once one local library is lost the next most vulnerable local library could be under threat"
Heathfield Ward Councillor John Coombs added "If the Conservative proposals go ahead this would be a real kick in the teeth for Heathfield residents. They were promised a new library by the previous Lib Dem administration and now they are seeing that promise broken while tax breaks are dished out to subsidize drivers of gas guzzling cars." Have your say online here. The consultation will end on Wednesday 23rd February 2011.
