• [Nov 29]: OVER 2,000 residents have signed a petition against Conservative plans to close Tangley Hall intensive day centre in just two weeks.
The petition, organised by Hampton North Ward's Liberal Democrat councillors Darren Thornton and Ellen Day, calls on the Council to keep the local centre for older people with dementia open. Cllr Thornton presented the petition to Tuesday's Council Meeting, where it triggered a short debate.
Cllr Thornton said: "We have been overwhelmed with support for the campaign from local people and the carers of users of the centre. People have been in dismay and disbelief since these proposals became public. Tangley Hall is an excellent purpose-built facility that is helps many extremely vulnerable residents every day. People are extremely concerned about the having to travel to a much more distant centre the other end of the borough in Ham that isn't anything like as good."
