• LOCAL Liberal Democrats have welcomed the news that the planning application for a new footbridge at North Sheen station has been submitted.
Network Rail have been drawing up designs for the new bridge after a long campaign by Lib Dems and local residents to get safety improved at North Sheen station.
Susan Kramer said: "I am really pleased that local residents and passengers will now have the chance to look at the proposed designs for the bridge. Network Rail listened to our long campaign to get safety issues addressed at North Sheen, where passengers often have to wait for long periods at level crossing barriers to cross to the platform they need. We regularly see people jumping the barriers rather than wait for several trains to pass, and it will be such a relief to the local community that a safer solution is now in sight."
North Sheen Councillor Celia Hodges said: "It is thanks to the local residents' campaigning that we can now see firm designs for the footbridge. I am pleased that Network Rail have listened and will finally provide passengers with a safer route to and from the station. Residents in nearby streets should have received a letter about the plans, but they will soon be available for viewing on the council website and at Richmond Reference Library or the Civic Centre."
