• MORE than 15,000 voices have united in calling for vital emergency services at Kingston Hospital to be saved.
MPs Susan Kramer, Vince Cable and Ed Davey submitted a petition of over 15,000 signatures to Downing Street demanding the Government abandon its plans to shut A&E and Maternity Services at Kingston Hospital today, on March 16. They were accompanied by campaigner Shas Sheehan and Adam and Francesca Woodhouse whose baby Isobel was born two months ago at the under threat hospital. The Liberal Democrats are pressing the Government to stop its plans before lives are put in danger and valuable services lost.
Susan Kramer said: "We have had huge support from local people who are appalled that these plans are even being considered. Thank you to everyone who has signed the petition and joined the campaign. So many people have contacted me to let me know how important these NHS services are to them. We want to send a strong, clear message to the Labour Government that we will defend our local hospital, and fight these cuts all the way."
The proposals came to light when senior NHS figures leaked pages from the 'South West London Strategic Plan' to "reorganise" local health services. 16 out of 18 options proposed would mean Kingston Hospital losing services.
