• COMPOSTABLE liners for use with food waste recycling kitchen caddies are now available free to borough residents for the first time, as part of Richmond Council's effort to cut the amount of waste sent to landfill.
The 26 liner rolls are available on request from the Council's Waste and Recycling Team. Cllr Geoff Acton, Cabinet Member for Environment on Richmond Council, said:
"We produce enough waste in the borough each year to fill Twickenham Stadium. Over a third of this is organic waste, such as left over food, so every effort we make to cut this will have considerable benefits. Sending food waste to landfill not only has a negative impact on the environment, but by reducing the amount disposed of in this way we will be saving money too. We hope by offering the liners for free that new households will try food recycling, as well as helping to keep bins cleaner and easier to use for those who already do."
The liners have been donated by the Waste Resource Action Programme (WRAP). Each household is entitled to one free roll, with limited stock this will operate on a first come, first served basis.
They are available on request from www.richmond.gov.uk/love_food_hate_waste
Alternatively you can text 0780 000 2439 FOOD followed by your name, address and postcode. All charges will be at the normal rate. After the promotion has finished rolls containing 35 liners will be available for £1.20 from local libraries, and £1.20, plus postage and packing, via the Council's website. Food waste recycling is collected weekly on the same day as the waste and other recycling. To request a food waste recycling bin or a kitchen caddy visit:
