• MORE than 90 borough businesses will be defying the recession and exhibiting at a trade fair to showcase their goods and services next month, and an open invitation is being issued to the public and firms to visit and see what's on offer.
'Thebestofrichmond Networking Expo 2010' will be held at Twickenham Stadium on Tuesday 2 March and businesses ranging from insurers to printers will be highlighting what they offer. The aim is to attract new firms and businesses to the borough, as well as showing existing firms products or services which they could source locally. Last year at least 700 visitors attended, and the figure is expected to rise this time around. Business owners will find a wealth of advice, support and solutions and local residents will be able to source great local suppliers.
Cllr Geoff Acton, Richmond Council's Business Champion said: "It is Richmond upon Thames' strong business support networks and vibrant sense of community that makes this the right place to invest. In the last two weeks, we have seen central London law firm Fisher Meredith opening an office in Richmond and The Bingham Hotel winning its first Michelin star. Business leaders can see this is the right place to invest and by bringing so many together at this expo, it will give them greater understanding of what is here. It's a good chance to network and build contacts locally."
As well as the Council's economic development department, the borough has an active Chamber of Commerce and several town centre managers, who can provide advice, support and representation for businesses. In addition to businesses promoting themselves at the Expo, which is being run by the Best of Richmond in conjunction with the Council, many of these support organisations will also be presenting their services. The Council's Smarter Travel Richmond programme, sustainability and commercial recycling departments will also be explaining their services, and copies of the borough's business directory will also be available.
