Mayor's Crossrail 'Tweaks' Offer Little Comfort To Local Businesses - Kramer

February 13, 2010 5:01 PM

SUSAN Kramer has reacted with disappointment at the news that the Mayor of London's much-vaunted adjustments* to the Crossrail supplement will affect very few local businesses. The changes to the supplement will affect just 78 businesses in Richmond Borough and 62 in Kingston Borough. She commented:

"The Mayor's much-vaunted changes to the levy will in fact help very few of our local businesses. Our businesses are paying for a rail link that will be of most benefit to North London and the City. If our local community is to pay this levy, we deserve to see serious improvements to our local transport as a quid pro quo. Instead we've had New Year fare rises and the prospect of unspecified cuts to outer London bus and tube services. I want to see action to reduce overcrowding and limit the impact of weekend engineering closures, as well as a commitment to safeguard our existing public transport services."

  • The Mayor of London has announced that the rateable business value threshold for the Crossrail subsidy will be increased from £50,000 to £55,000.
