• THE Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) has formally agreed that Shene School can move ahead to an 'Expression of Interest Stage' for the proposed academy. The Department has also approved the borough's preferred choice of co-sponsor Academies Enterprise Trust (AET)
Cllr Malcolm Eady, Cabinet Member Education and Children's Services on Richmond Council said: "I am very pleased to announce that we will be working with AET on the important task of continuing the improvements at Shene School. This partnership will bring valuable educational expertise and resources, and will enable it to move quickly to being an outstanding school."
"The key factors in our choice of sponsor were that AET were happy to work with the Council being a co-sponsor, they believed in strong participation by the local community and have also made it clear that they will work in co-operation with other local educational establishments. Shene, as with our other proposed academies, will stay firmly within the family of Richmond Schools."
Chief Executive of AET, David Triggs, added: "We are committed to doing everything we can, working in partnership with Richmond Council to ensure that young people are able to compete on the world stage with the skills, confidence and flair to generate new ideas, new initiatives and thereby make a full contribution to tomorrow's world."
Council officers will now begin preparing the expression of interest papers and will aim to have the report ready for Overview and Scrutiny in early November before they go to Cabinet later in the month.
