• WORKSHOPS are being held in Richmond upon Thames during September and October, as part of an ongoing search for residents and businesses' opinions on the borough's future growth.
Richmond Council is currently producing a Local Development Framework, which includes guidance on what types of developments should be approved or refused. It is currently seeking views through the workshops on the future of Richmond and Twickenham town centres, housing and transport policy. .
Cllr Geoff Acton, Richmond Council's Cabinet Member for Environment, said: "Residents are rightly proud of their communities and are recognising that our borough is the best place in the UK to live. It's the Council's duty to make sure we listen to people's views when we're designing policies to ensure standards stay high and that Richmond upon Thames' reputation is maintained."
These workshops will feed in to policies to manage development, following the adoption of the Council's Core Strategy which sets out the framework to guide where new housing, employment, shops, leisure and community facilities will go, and what open land will be protected.
The current workshops and discussion topics are:
• Twickenham Town Centre: Thursday 24 September, evening workshop.
• Housing: Tuesday 29 September, evening workshop.
• Transport: Thursday 1 October, late afternoon workshop.
Consultation documents will be available on the Council's Local Development Framework pages, from the environment reception in the Civic Centre in Twickenham or in libraries shortly before each meeting, and people who cannot attend the workshops can also comment on the issues. To reserve a place, email ldfconsultation@richmond.gov.uk or phone 020 8891 7322. Anyone wishing to attend a workshop will need to register at least two days before the meeting.
