Richmond upon Thames primary schools best in the country - yet again

August 26, 2009 10:28 AM

• THE borough's primary schools have once again been named the best in the country, following the publication of the provisional Key Stage 2 test results on August4.

The results reveal that Richmond has the highest number of pupils achieving the top level, 5, across the three subjects: English, Maths and Science. The borough also has highest number of children achieving the expected standard of level 4 and above. The results go against the overall trend that has seen standards drop around the country.

Cllr Malcolm Eady, Cabinet Member for Children's Services and Education, said: "We're delighted with the results, they once again confirm our primary schools as the best in the country. Not only did more of our pupils get the top level than anywhere else in each subject, but we also have the highest number achieving level 4.

"This is the result of sustained hard work by our teachers and council staff, as well as the pupils themselves. We are also extremely fortunate to have absolutely fantastic support from the parents and governors at all of our schools. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all for their efforts and congratulate them on their success.

"We work hard in Richmond to provide a wide curriculum for all our children in primary schools, that not only ensures they achieve high levels of literacy and numeracy but also provides opportunities for learning and achievement in humanities, the arts, green issues and sports. The very positive OFSTED inspection reports we have received recently recognise this broader range of achievement."
