• ENGLAND'S success in winning the right to host the 2015 Rugby World Cup is 'an outstanding victory for Twickenham', according to Richmond Council's deputy leader, Stephen Knight.
Cllr Knight said: "This is absolutely great news, seeing the Rugby World Cup coming home to Twickenham will do so much good for the town and the whole borough. Our hotels and attractions are ready and waiting to show the fans the great entertainment and hospitality that's on offer here. The world's sporting spotlight will be on us and we have six years to make sure our shops and businesses can reap the economic benefit from the tourists that will come. This is a very welcome challenge to everyone to help make sure the whole borough is in first rate condition - it's a test the Council fully intends to pass with flying colours.
"This is already a very sporty borough, but hopefully by bringing a world class event like the Rugby World Cup to people's doorsteps it will encourage everyone to get active because they will see the results at very close quarters. I'm sure our schools, sports clubs and teams will make the most of this news."
