• [Jul 02] Cllr Serge Lourie writes: I AM not surprised that the so called referendum came out so heavily against the proposed development at Twickenham Riverside, as the question was rigged and the information sent to residents was completely biased.
The organisers have claimed a turnout of 47 % based on 1,928 votes cast out of total number of eligible voters of 4,090 but what on earth is this? There are 135,000 eligible voters in Richmond upon Thames; we have always been very clear that the issue of Twickenham Riverside was one for the whole borough, as it involves the whole borough's money. We are very curious to know how the organisers 'selected' the 3 % (4,090 out of 135,000) of the borough's population who should vote on this issue. This number does not even amount to the eligible voters of a single ward.
The cafe on the Riverside will reopen as the Sunshine Cafe on Monday July 06.
