• IN the recent Cabinet reshuffle, two of the most militant supporters of a third runway at Heathrow have been dropped from their posts.
Geoff Hoon, whose bullying tactics as Secretary for Transport shut off any chance for MPs to vote on the issue, and Jim Fitzpatrick, who supported Hoon as Aviation Minister, are both out of the Department and Hoon is out of the Cabinet altogether. Lord Adonis now becomes Secretary for Transport and Sadiq Khan is his Minister in the Commons.
Susan Kramer said:" Gordon Brown's Government as a whole has been responsible for the disgraceful decision to expand Heathrow despite the noise and pollution it would cause locally and the harm to tackling Climate Change that it would do internationally. But there is no doubt that Hoon bullied many reluctant Labour MPs to fall in with the Government instead of voting with their best judgement and Hoon's actual lack of understanding of the issues was clear to anyone listening to debates in the House. I am now seeking a meeting with Lord Adonis to see if the decision on Heathrow can be reversed. Hoon is gone and his failed ideas should also go with him."
