• OVER 150 young people stepped out in style to celebrate the Annual Youth awards at Heatham House Youth Centre, Twickenham, last week.
The Oscar-themed awards ceremony was organised by the Council to recognise the achievement of young people, and those aged up to 25 with learning difficulties and disabilities, in the borough. Council Leader for Richmond upon Thames, Cllr Serge Lourie, opened the ceremony and all nominees were presented with certificates and the award winners for all eight categories with high street vouchers and a trophy.
Cllr Lourie commented: "The Youth Awards was a fantastic event which was enjoyed by everyone who attended. It was a time for all the finalists to relax and enjoy the limelight after passing a tough selection process which included over 150 entries. We were impressed by the standard of entries this year and hope the Youth Awards will provide inspiration for young people thinking of volunteering, taking part in a sporting or dramatic activities and community events in the future. Not only will young people gain a lot from their chosen activity - it's a way to meet people and learn new skills - they will also be in with a chance of being nominated for next year's awards."
