• SUSAN Kramer is to introduce a move in Parliament to force a vote on Heathrow expansion.
The MP will table an amendment to the Planning Bill that would require a vote on all major airport expansion. This would give MPs a vote on the third runway at Heathrow, as well as the new runway at Stansted. It is anticipated that the bill will come before Parliament in February.
She commented: "I hope to get really broad support for this amendment; I am already getting a messages of support from the public who feel betrayed by the Government over Heathrow. I strongly believe that in a democracy, Parliament should get a vote on issues with such a huge impact. We need to send the message loud and clear to the Government that it cannot hide from its obligations. I hope that the bill will be supported by MPs from all parties, not just those with constituents affected by expansion but also by those who believe in democracy."
