• A £400,000 WINDFALL to improve Crane Park for people and Nature is within the borough's grasp - if sufficient people vote for the project.
The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson has launched a £6m scheme to regenerate 10 open spaces in the capital and Richmond upon Thames's Crane Park is in the running. The online public vote will decide which 10 of the 47 parks are chosen - two from each sector of the capital. In the South West sector, Crane Park has nine rivals for the cash.
Cllr Martin Elengorn, Cabinet Member for Environment on Richmond Council, said: "This is a marvellous opportunity to gain extra cash specifically for enhancing one of our parks. Richmond upon Thames already possesses some of the finest and best-kept public open spaces in the country and enhancement of Crane Park would be a real boost for the community. I would urge everyone to vote for Crane Park and to encourage their families, friends and colleagues to do so as well. We need to show the Mayor of London the strength of feeling we have in Richmond upon Thames about our parks and open spaces."
Improvements at Crane Park would include environmental works such as river restoration works and the creation of a bridge to link the two boroughs - Richmond upon Thames and Hounslow - within the park. New paths, bins and signage will also be introduced, along with continuation of the existing "carved bench project". Furthermore the grant will contribute towards the funding of two new cross-borough roles of Park Development Officer and Park Ranger. Register your vote to win £400,000 for Crane Park by simply by logging on to www.london.gov.uk/parksvote , go to the South West section and click on "Crane Park " at the top of the list.
