• BUSINESSES from across the borough have been awarded for their green credentials as part of the Council's Go Green Richmond upon Thames initiative.
Eleven businesses have been recognised in the first set of awards with one achieving the advanced level certification demonstrating quantifiable improvements in their efforts to become more environmentally friendly. The tiered accreditation scheme recognises businesses who take steps to minimise their impact on the environment. At each level the business is awarded a certificate and can display a leaf window sticker showing their customers, staff and stakeholders their commitment to going green.
Cllr Martin Elengorn, Cabinet Member for Environment said: "We would like to congratulate all the businesses who have achieved accreditation through the Go Green Richmond upon Thames initiative. The businesses have made huge improvements to reduce their impact on the environment, undertaking such measures as installing thermostatic radiator valves, energy efficient light bulbs and save-a-flush devices in toilets. As well as being better for the environment all these changes will benefit the businesses financially offering them long term cost savings. Improving our environment and reducing the borough's carbon emissions have always been key priorities for this Council and the Go Green Richmond upon Thames initiative helps us achieve these aims. The free support and advice offered to businesses in the scheme has already started making a big difference to them individually and to the borough as a whole."
