David Trigg chosen for Twickenham Riverside

April 19, 2005 12:00 AM

The Lib Dems have chosen David Trigg as their candidate to fight the by-election on May 5th. David has lived with his wife in Twickenham for 17 years and knows the area very well.

He is a founder member and treasurer of FORCE (Friends of the River Crane Environment), an executive member of the Friends of Twickenham Green and a member of the Twickenham Society. David has spent most of his career in the Travel and Transport industries and now has his own consultancy in the field. His major interests are in the areas of Environment, Transport, Education and Licensing.

5 good reasons to vote David Trigg on 5th May ...

1. Recycling for everyone - I shall continue to press the Tory Council to make it easier for ALL residents to recycle waste. Many people living in flats can't recycle because of the lack of imagination and interest in this by the Tory administration. I will also be pressing for doorstep collections of cardboard and the introduction of plastics recycling throughout the borough.

2. Protecting the environment - As a founder member of FORCE (Friends of River Crane Environment) I know how important our green open spaces are to the people of Twickenham. In Riverside there is constant pressure on even the smallest pieces of land and our historic buildings for development. I shall work with Vincent Cable, your Lib Dem MP and colleague Cllr Carr to prevent overdevelopment and to see that our Green Open Spaces are respected for the benefit of the community, now and in the future.

3. Tories don't deserve to win - I shall continue to demand a reduction in the Council Tax while the Tories hold £40,000,000 of YOUR money in reserves. This high level of taxation hits the elderly and the most vulnerable hardest. Liberal Democrats believe that local income tax based on ability to pay is the fairest way.

4. Repairing roads and pavements - I have been urging the Council to spend some of its reserves to repair residential roads and pavements. These are now in such a state that they are a danger to the elderly, parents with buggies and cyclists who have to negotiate the many potholes in the roads.

5. More effective policing - I am looking forward to working with our dedicated Police team to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in Twickenham Riverside. I shall also be pressing for action to be taken against the unacceptable level of binge drinking which takes place in Central Twickenham.
